So my question is… do the state governments have the power to close the deaf schools (the state-funded schools particullarly) just to trim the spending costs of the state budgets? Doesn’t it violate NCLB laws? What about Public Law 142? I am just trying to understand the sense or wisdom of the states’ actions toward [...]

Ask not what your Deaf Community can do for you; Ask what you can do for your Deaf Community.
1979-1984 Filed and won a Department of Justice complaint against D.C. Traffic Court for their refusal to provide interpreters for Deaf defendants in the Traffic Court. A major victory in the pre ADA days.

A Hudson County jury’s $400,000 verdict for a deaf patient whose doctor refused her an interpreter may be a wake-up call for all professionals — including lawyers — that they risk liability for disability discrimination.

As of few hours ago over 400 votes have been cast. The results were:
38% YES
58% NO
2% NO OPINION
Of course when I first heard this, my first response was pfffttthhh. I went to Washington Post poll center and voted YES. I was disappointed to find the comment section closed as I couldn’t leave my 2 cent.

Everson said the association is concerned that the deaf students’ civil rights have been [...]

This article leaves me flabbergasted.. that the police department would permit a manipulative hearing relative use their facilities to conduct a serious miscarriage of justice. Hello??? We are talking about the law and order.
This sounds like a perfect recipe how to get a baby, free of charge. You want to kidnap a baby from a deaf couple?
A [...]
