hope she donates profits from her book for deaf causes.
in her book she admits to fighting and beating up other people and her own mom. the so called abuse claims with William Hurt people are not buying because their friends didn’t see it happen.
at least this raises more awareness to domestic violence in deaf world and all over.

She had friends with her during the time she alleged she was alone in NYC who saw her “bruises”. It’s in the book. She was just as responsible and admitted to addiction to drugs.
Drugs cloud the mind. And was known for having a volatile temper. She and William Hurt never married. If it weren’t for him, she would not be where she is today.

The book is written from a one-sided perspective but Marlee also expresses her love for Willima Hurt. He is a great actor.

I am a bit surprised Marlee and Hunt were married for a short time. It is all about the power and control. Sigh …

Good for Hunt — to admit his own problem but it is not enough. Something is up with him. Glad Marlee has a better life with her family now. Writing the book is a good way of healing for Marlee.

I agreed with you about likely I have no idea where I can find to Deaf Service for safety place. I did not get some helped until I moved to Seattle I did not know for long time and learn to meet with deaf community they will give you a deaf service. I learn to move on.

I think Marlene were not alone. when I became victims I have lack of interpreter service in small town where I was reported and they hired and someone did not know how to communicate. I am kind of wander where I could get some helped,too. ADWAS provided ao wonderful program.
I love the person at ADWAS.

Please do not assume that anyone deaf would go somewhere to get assistance in an instant way before the days of Internet.

MM herself a major celebrity with personal shame and figured out what she would do the next right thing – public image and career strategy.

Ben Vess is absolutely right about Hurt’s shoddy apology statement meant NOTHING! Hurt know better than overwhelming the fraggy gal like MM.

In my blog posting, “What Do You Really Think About MM’s Alleged Abuses?”. The recent STARmeter poll showed the plummenting favorable ratings for William Hurt.

It’s not as expensive as some would think so. Even the tiny American Athletic Association of the Deaf managed just fine renamed as United States of America Deaf Sports Federation.

Abused people experience a feeling of shame. This shame makes it harder for them to reach out and ask for help.

Perhaps it is the confidentiality issue. Well known Deaf people find it difficult to preserve confidentiality within the Deaf Community. Especially someone who just won the Oscar Award.

Also back then, she incurred the wrath of the Deaf Community by speaking aloud the names of the winners. So perhaps she didn’t feel safe reaching out to the Deaf Community.

These are the possibilities, but I really don’t know. I only know what she said in the interview.

She didn’t know anyone in NYC? Oh c’mon! New York City has a sizable deaf community. There’s always a plethora of deaf social events. Why didn’t she seek them?? This is beyond me!
