Inside Story: NDSD Murder Suspect is Boyfriend’s Brother
The accused murderer, Billy Eagleman attended the memorial services of Paula Hartze held on NDSD campus. Approximately 200 people, including NDSD personnel and students, attended this services.

Billy Eagleman’s brother Ron reportedly had an on and off relationship with Paula Hartze. Billy and Ron are half brothers, Native American and hearing.
After not hearing from her for a day, the NDSD teacher’s boyfriend, Ron Eagleman allegedly went to her residence where he discovered her body, though that remains unconfirmed. The night before, the Deafies, including Paula, were at a bar in Devil’s Lake where they stayed until the wee hours. She was reportedly last seen alive sometime after 2 AM.
According to one inside source, out of 40 suspects interviewed, including several deaf men, all were eliminated as suspects except Billy Eaglemen. The Deaf suspects were identified by their e-mail addresses stored in Paula’s text pager. Their SKs and Blackberrys were confiscated by the police during the investigation. Whether these commnication devices were returned to the Deaf owners or not remains unknown at this point.
The Devil’s Lake Deaf Community expressed tremendous relief it wasn’t one of their members who had murdered Paula Hartze.

So sad. Billy was there at the memorial service and he doesn’t have guilt. I hope Billy will be brought to the justice if there are plenty evidences against him. People are crazy out there. Killing someone is not the answer but vent to someone about his anger toward to the loved one. Billy would have gone to the ER or see his family or friends for help. Sigh …

I cannot believe that Paula’s family would be very upset about his attented her memorial service were not approiated of why he attened the service for his brother.

Actually, you got part of the story wrong. It was not Ron Eagleman who found Paula, Ron was currently located in Grand Forks during the murder so he was not anywhere near Devils Lake. Paula’s last text was to Ron at 2:38 am Saturday, March 1, 2008. They were having casual conversation and as far as I know they never said good night so it was most likely she was killed after her last text to Ron Eagleman, thus ending the conversation unexpectedly.
Saturday came and went with no word from Paula. She was supposed to sign the Star-Spangle Banner for the homecoming basketball game but no one could locate her and she didn’t answer her texts/calls. So the day went on without her.
Sunday, March 2nd, Ron Eagleman’s another brother (not Billy Thomas) went in Paula’s house to do his laundry as he has done every Sunday, This is when he found Paula, stabbed to death in her bed in her pajamas. She was stabbed sixteen times. Ron Eagleman’s brother then called the police. At the same time, Pam Smith, Paula’s co-worker and friend was also at the house knocking on the door, trying to locate her. She planned on going in the house but decided against that and called the police instead, hence why the police got 911 calls to the same house at the same house.
Two weeks later to this day, the story continues.

I was with Paula celebrating Leap year party that Friday night at the bar along with Michelle Dickey, It was like 1:50am when Bouncer had to push everyone out of the bar by 2am.
Paula and I were walking toward outside to our vehicle, We said our good night and See ya tomorrow at NDSD for Homecoming basketball against South Dakota School for the Deaf.
So Im actually the 2nd last person seen her alive so the murderer would be the LAST.

Please do note that I used the word allegedly, not stating as a concrete fact, as the insider source remains uncertain in that area. Does this third brother share the last name?
Three related brothers involved in this case is very unusual.
My sympathies for Paula’s friends, family and NDSD community.

PeachLady was right that any of the deaf people ought not to jump to any kind of conclusion about the suspect attending the memorial service. Wait for the judical verdict – “Guilty” or “Not Guilty”.

I have a friend close to the investigation of Paula’s murder. The DNA evidence against Eagleman is pretty airtight. Of course, he’s undergoing evaluation at the state hospital in Jamestown so his counsel may be a considering some sort of an insanity plea. But those defenses have lost a lot of traction in the past 20 or 30 years. I am confident justice will prevail. Thankfully, North Dakota doesn’t have the death penalty, so there won’t be the opportunity to substitute revenge for justice.

I had been a very good friend of Paula’s for the last 24 years. We knew each other through theatre and other classes at Dickinson State in the early/mid 1980′s. She and I were two of a four-friend group who called ourselves “The Clan of the Mist.” The four of us loved to drink (at least at the time), listen to music and tell each other our deep, dark secrets (none of which will be discussed here). The long and short of this is that a day hasn’t gone by since her murder that I haven’t thought of her. She was like a little sister to me. When I attended her funeral in Dickinson, I was constantly under the hope that it was just a bad dream and that I would soon awaken. Well, that never happened and we’re all still in shock at the loss of this lovely, courageous, gifted, caring, compassionate person. Paulie, I miss you!

Paula was married to my uncle. I was fortunate to spend time with her growing up. She was so fun to be around. Nobody especially Paula deserved what happend to her. I was at the memorial service and Im glad that I didnt know who Billy was because I would have been next behind bars.

Some of you got the part where Ron’s brother (not Billy) went to her house to wash his laundry. It one of the teacher who kept calling her from the teacher’s cell and the school’s # of course she didn’t repond to it. So that teacher sent Pam Smith to her house to get her. Pam knock a couple time then she went home then came back. Then Pam or the teacher call 911. That all I know

WOW! Ive missed Paula, her and i used to talked on txt messaging sometimes, she supposed to come down this summer visit me in Utah, i was shocked after heard then i went out drinking to honor her for 1 week with Corene Gourneau in Utah. It was a great blessed for us, but we can feel the spirit thats shes always with us in our heart, because she loves everyone who honored her, its a sad moment for couple of months, but now we calming because we all know shes in heaven and speaking to our ear whispering talking like god and also our heart, please pray for her everyday that she will be with us everyday, never alone. be strong for her and blessed you all. always Remember Paula Hartze! Billy Eagleman pleaded guilty just before xmas time 2008, Hes now going to a Sentencing hearing upcoming Feburary 3rd 2009.
Glad this is over with!!
State Prosecutor is seeking life time prison with NO parole.
