Pepsi AD Deaf Actor: Oral and C.I. User
In my last post, I challenged AGBell Association regarding its letter of protest to Pepsi Cola Corporation for ‘implying that Deaf people only communicating using sign language.” How does AGBell Association know the Deaf people don’t speak orally, too? They may be wearing hearing aids and can lipread, too.
I rest my case:
Darren Therriault, the guy who plays the passenger in the commercial, uses a cochlear implant. He attended Clarke school as a youngster, an oral education school where American Sign Language or any visual language is not used. Deaf Commercial Kicks up a Storm – DeafMom
Thanks, Karen, for the information
From AGBell Association letter: ““Your advertisement perpetuates a common myth that all people who are deaf can only communicate using sign language and are, therefore isolated from the rest of society.”
AGBell Association for the Deaf and HoH, I don’t think Darren Therriault agrees with your statement.

Look at each states like here in Missouri has MCDHH. We the Deaf Taxpayers and Registered Voters did worked hard helping to have the Newborn BABY Hearing Test passed the laws. So why on earth the AGBAD, AVT and other hearing organization took advantage of our Deaf help to pass the Newborn Baby and BABY hearing test laws!!?? They don’t EVEN bother to educate the parents that if if if (BIG IFS) some Deaf hearing aids and cochlear implants children do need ASL in case if the Deaf children need to have more language develop concept to PREVENT language delayed!
I give my BIG HANDS APPLAUD for Darren Therriault for his wonderful support!!! Hope that he will WARN PepsiCO not to sign the CONTRACT with the AgBAD in Milwaukee this summer without us knowing because I want to make sure that ASL is 100 percent welcome, too!
Thank you!

Goes to show that AGBell doesn’t know Deaf jokes or does their research on who exactly can speak and uses C.I.
Next time, AGBell, look before you leap. D:

Wanna 2nd chance?
Excuse me, no way!
Too late for AGBell!
I’m very happy with Bob’s House commercial!

Just to show you that AGB thrives on sensationalism without any basis at all. Boy, does this make them look stupid. Thanks.

“Of the more than 30 million Americans who live with hearing loss, the majority use spoken language as their primary mode of communication.”
That is mislead.
It should say: “Of the more than 30 million Americans who live with hearing loss, the majority used spoken language as their primary mode of communication. However, three-fourth of the majority has been switched to sign language as their primary mode of communication.”

No surprise. AGBAD looks down on anyone using sign language, even if one talks and uses cochlear implant. AGBAD shows its true colors. BIGOT

DUH! When did Bob’s house show up during the SUPER BOWL commerical? Clerly, I missed it. BAH!!!! I missed the first 15 minutes of the game. Guess that is when the commerical showed up. Right?
I went into listing of SUPER BOWL COMMERICAL. Could not even find listing of PEPSI’s BOB’s HOUSE. Yeah, it has Pepsi’s Justin Timberlake which I saw.
February 3rd, 2008 at 10:50 pm
So much hype!!! For what? and Why? There was no Bob’s house commerical during the game but showed it before the game! I missed it, too!
Oh well you get to see many times on

I missssssssed the Bob’s house commerical because we arrived about an half hour late! One hour drive from another town to town. Geez! But I’m glad I have seen it and I added it to my blog anyway.

You go, girl! Take down the Goliath with their perpetuated misconceptions about ASL! The passenger being an CI user plus a Clarke graduate is a double whammy on AGBell!! He went on to appear on an ASL commerical using fluent ASL!! Pie on your face, AGBell!
Yep, I just vlogged that Pepsi’s site announced Bob’s House to be aired during pregame….surely most of us missed it. Da&n it.
However, I’d like to know if anyone watched pregame and caught the commerical??
February 4th, 2008 at 8:11 am
Yes I saw it at 4:15 (eastern time) and it looked so cool. It was on pre-game show, not during superbowl.
February 4th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Well I didn’t see that on PREGAME! Why not have that Bob House on 4th quarter for more Deaf Jokes while they do have Hearing Culture Jokes on the 4th quarter! I feel so hurt by ODAC insulted me that I have low reading level!!! DUH!!!!

I wrote a letter to Pepsi thanking them for commerical of Bob’s House using ASL during SuperBowl game. Even it was aired before the game.
Guess what? I got letter from Pepsi Co. It made me feel warm and fuzzy.

A Message from Consumer Relations 011498256A
Dear Deb M,
Thank you so much for taking the time to contact us at Pepsi-Cola and for your kind words about our very special commercial, “Bob’s House.”
We couldn’t be more proud of this commercial and the people whose creativity, sensitivity, and effort went into making a truly groundbreaking
television experience. The spot was developed by and features some of our own employees who are members of EnAble, an internal network whose
mission is to promote a more inclusive environment for people with different abilities.
I can tell you that the outpouring of support, both inside the company and among viewers, has been overwhelming. It’s truly gratifying to all
of us at PepsiCo to know that our 60-second message has resonated so positively and helped to raise public awareness.
Thanks again for your thoughtful feedback. We really appreciate your friendship and support.
