Bob’s House Ad Was Aired Before SuperBowl Game
A good friend, Hedy, informed me the ad with Deaf characters did make its appearance thirty mins prior to the start of Superbowl Game on television.
Oh, boy, you guys gave me a big scare!
I was soooo relieved to hear it did air, after all!
Yay to Pepsi Cola Corporation for recognizing our ASL and Deaf Culture

YAHOOOOOOO!!!
I got a big scare too! I knew it was for pre-game.
I wasn’t able to watch the pre-game shows, plus most of the Superbowl because I was on the PLANE going back to Atlanta from DeafRead conference. Luckily, I got home during the 4th quarter – which Patriots was leading… until i get myself settled… and saw how Giants whupped them.
I was hoping to hear about the Bob’s House… glad it was aired.
Did anyone out there tape this commerical?
It is indeed a big celebration for all of us.

Only once aired pre-game?
What about more than commercial continues for a night? (sigh) once aired.. isn’t sufficient!
February 4th, 2008 at 12:14 am
Yep, it seems that many people did not realize they air it during pregame as it stated on NAD forum:

Just updated my blog about Bob’s House. Thanks for the tip, Mishka.

Yes, I receivedd an email distributed by
Brian Riley saying that the commerical
was aired at 4 p.m. I missed it beause
I did not open my email until 5:30.
Actually, I thought that it would be
aired during one of the SuperBowl breaks.

Typical many bloggers didn’t say pre-game commercial which led many to think it would air during the game.
But hey please thank Pepsi! They did something big we should not get upset… probably the first silent commercial ever… this is a start (Don’t forget all that hype we had… great feeling!) and more companies will do more. So hang in there. Don’t forget there are Pepsi, YouTube, CNN, MSN any website where there are plenty more viewers – just google “Pepsi Bob’s House”, you are there!

A friend was visiting a mother in hospital and watched the pre-game Super Bowl.. and saw the commercial around 4:15 (2 1/2 hrs before kickoff occurred.)
Just pass the word ( please don’t shoot the messenger!)
Giants won the Super Bowl!! Congrats!!

I remember that there is a 90% illiteracy rate in the deaf community. Maybe that’s why they missed it because they couldn’t read the clues to when the ad was going to be aired.
February 4th, 2008 at 3:27 am
I knew it was going to be aired during the pre-game show and, sure enough, it was shown 2 hrs and 10 minutes into the show.
February 4th, 2008 at 3:51 am
I missed “Bob’s House” because I didn’t start watching the game until the game started, but I did notice that Pepsi’s other commercials were not closed-captioned. All that fuss about their deaf commercial, and they can’t bother to caption their other ads? It is hard to imagine anyone being that stupid.
February 4th, 2008 at 5:29 am
That’s funny Tom! (In an ironic sense, not hilarity).
I was going to check that, but my upstairs TV doesn’t have CC. (Should have replaced that for the Superbowl!)

Pepsi was the official sponsor for Captioning of the SuperBowl game for people who are “different able.” I have no idea where that word came from, yet they happily caption a silent video for their hearing viewers, but their other commericals were not given the same treatment for their deaf viewers. In fact several pre-game and game time commericals were NOT captioned and Pepsi was the official captioned sponsors of the game.
I think Pepsi played the deaf community!

I’m glad that Bob’s House commercial was shown on tv, but I’m more disappointed that it wasn’t aired repeatly before or during the game. None of us knew what time it would be aired, and not many people would watch the pre-game. If it were aired during the game, more people would recognize ASL. I bet that AGBell is happy that it wasn’t aired during the game.

Yes I saw it at 4:15 (eastern time) and it looked so cool. It was on pre-game show, not during superbowl.
February 4th, 2008 at 9:37 am
I’m hearing and literate, and I was looking for that ad, and I searched around last night to figure out why I hadn’t seen it, and neither had my correspondent in NY, and neither was it listed at http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7755014/Super-Bowl-commercials:-Pregame-and-first-quarter
This Blog is the absolute first clue I’ve had what happened to that much-anticipated commercial.
I tuned in at 6pm (EST), half an hour before actual kickoff. I wasn’t going to watch the pre-pre-game, I’m too busy cooking. And I don’t recall buzz in past years for commercials that aired at random times on Superbowl Sunday.

JohnABC, Yes, I nod, because it is true. I saw it about 2:30 during the pre-game show.
February 4th, 2008 at 11:02 am
I missed it because we got there about an half hour late.
February 4th, 2008 at 11:09 am
Pre-game or during the game, it didn’t matter, all what was important is that it SHOWED on National TV!
A big KUDOS to Pepsi! I will switch from Coke to Pepsi for the month of February!
February 4th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Well I missed that on Pregame Superbowl! Why not have that BOB HOUSE’s Deaf Culture Joke on the 4th quarter??? Look at Hearing Culture Joke on the 4th quarter Superbowl game!!! Why did someone from ODAC did insulted me “LOW LEVEL READING SKILLS”??? That hurts me!!! Allow the ODAC made fun of my reading level skills because I grew up in Deaf Oral Catholic education????
February 4th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
ASLRisen … look for my vlog. Someone is a loser and he is NOT linguist! Many hearing are illiterate too
February 4th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
ASLRisen
Oral Catholic education has proved low level reading skills. It is not you. I blame AGB cause some deaf fail reading and writing.
I am not good at writing. TC is failed.

ASL Risen,
This ’someone’ mentioned that deaf people are illiterate. That shows how very low self esteem he has; so he said something very negative about other people just to make himself feel much better. I wouldn’t worry about him. He’s not worth to talk to. He’s not worth to be friend with.
February 4th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
I am curious… why the Bob’s House commerical was put in the pregame? Because of vote? Or expensive to pay this commerical? Or what? I don’t think many viewers turn TV on during the pregame like me. Even the post game is not popular too. Well, this morning, I received the email from Pepsi’s nice “Thank you”. Yeah, I admit I feel mix up. I will be lying if I say, “I am happy about this commerical”. Oh well. I guess I better move on.
February 4th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Superbowl commericals on average cost 2.7 million dollar to air for 30 seconds. This is durring the game. So a 1 minute commerical would cost 5.4 million dollars to air. So hmmm a pre game commerical would probably cost ALOT less so thats why they did that.
Its all about money….
February 4th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Wow. That a lot! (money)
February 4th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
ASL Risen, just ignore #10. He wants to get us upset. Don’t let him upset you.
February 5th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
YOU…..#10…..You are so full of it…90% of the deaf community are illiteracy….90%(LOUD)…That’s a bunch of xxxxx
People like you who have a very low profile of the deaf are clasfty as an IGNORANT.
For those who feel offend by his bold remark…. PAY HIM NO MIND OR GIVE HIM BENEFIT OF FEELING GOOD.
For me he will be the LAST person on the face of the earth to worry about.
NEXT TIME YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT THE DEAF COMMUNITY…….GET YOUR FACT STRAIGHT….90% LOL
