UNC, Take Jane Now, Pretty Please

Jane K. Fernandes Tapped as UNC Asheville Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Congratulations, Jane Fernandes!  The first deaf provost at University of North Carolina at Asheville!  Go and read the press release that definitely defines about Jane Fernandes.

Yes, Fernandes did such a fantastic job that the world heard us last Fall. Gallaudet will never forget Fernandes!

What captured my attention is that Dr. Fernandes will not start her duties until July 1st.

The only commentary I can say at this time is:   UNC, take Jane now pretty please.

    ROFL! Good one! Hell yeah!

    UNC, please take Jane NOW!

    Misha :D

  3. IamMine Says:

    :D

This is the part where I don’t mind saying, “Congratulations, Jane!!”

Looks like something both sides can finally agree on… ;)

  4. Penny Says:

Can we all say let us wish her well instead of to keep on bashing her? Yes she brought crises at Gallaudet (I have learned a lot from all of you about her treatments to students, faculty and many others) and we should be thankful that it has brought attention to all over the world and now Gallaudet has been improving everyday to offer better programs for students and for faculty too. Jane happened to reveal her horrible mistakes in front of the public eye and she got bashed for it. I am pretty sure everyone of you…I mean everyone of you including me have made horrible mistakes in our lives and fortunately we did not get noticed by the public and I am sure most of you keep on trying to be better person from mistakes we made. I can’t get it why keep on bashing Jane? When she was forced to resign as President for Gallaudet…she did not come to Gallaudet to harass students or making them uncomfortable with her presence so unlike of what King Jordan has been doing lately. I was told that he visited Gallaudet often and really made students uncomfortable when they see him around and Jordon did not give them time to heal. Jane was doing it opposite because she stayed far away from Gallaudet. She is not a murderer and she does not molest children. Since she got an offer from other University then maybe this works better for her. She might able to meet hearing students needs better and not with Gallaudet students. Just say wish her well. Don’t be a witch!

  5. Mishka Zena Says:

Penny, didn’t you see me offering Jane “Congratulations!!” ?

Jane will return the next semester to teach Gallaudet. She is still badmouthing Gallaudet through her interviews with the media, harming Gallaudet and ASL

Bon Voyage, Jane! We wish you best of luck!

  6. Carl Schroeder Says:

Although I’m now on my way to Deattle for the Deafhood workshop with Ella Mae Lentz, David Eberwein and Genie Gertz on Saturday, I’ve managed to read Elizabeth’s blog. It’s fine by me that Jane K Fernandes goes to North Carolina. I would consider Elizabeth Zisner more successful than not. Zisner went to become a university president somewhere in the midwest. JKF took on a similiar position she has held for six years at Gallaudet, which is not exactly a success in my book. The state of North Carolina is also the home of the cochlear implant headquarters in Raleigh, NC.

  7. Chuckling Says:

Irony. What’s it with Gallaudet and the University of North Carolina system? Dr. Zisner was at UNC-Greensboro as Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs when she applied, interviewed and was selected as President of Gallaudet University. Now this with Dr. Fernandes!

  8. Penny Says:

Mishka- I read her interviews and the impression I got from her interviews were that she absolutely did and does not know anything about Deafness and culture. Apparently Jane thought she was giving correct information but all her information were myths. I have no idea why MJ hired her. Everyone NEED to ask MJ. People need to point at MJ and not at Jane because MJ is THE Director of ASL Deaf studies and not Jane. MJ was the one who gave her the tenure position. She stamped the paper! Regarding her coming back and teach at Gallaudet…We NEED to ask MJ and not Jane. For instance if I work for some attorneys along with other paralegals and if paralegals do not feel that I am not qualify for the position…they can’t bash me…they can’t challenge me but they CAN ask attorneys why they hired me and give them reasons why they feel that I am not qualified for the position. I hope you get what I am saying here.

  9. IamMine Says:

Penny, perhaps MJ was a puppet in the system?

But yes, I do agree that MJ needs to be asked and questions answered. Why was Jane the only one given tenure?

I can’t remember… anyone care to refresh my memory?

I know I’m going off the track here with Penny.

But I’m clinking with you, MZ!

  10. Mishka Zena Says:

Oh yes, Penny. I do know what you mean. MJ was under the administration of Jordan, well known for his management by intimidation style. So it is possible that she was coerced into signing the papers. However, we will never know until she speaks out publicly. However, in the eyes of the law, Fernandes earned her tenure.

Believe me, Fernandes is an exceptionally intelligent woman. I hope by moving to the greener pastures, she will feel happier. She has many good characteristics, but she didn’t have the administrative skills to operate Gallaudet and its widely diverse Community. In fact, she’s the perfect example of Peter Principal.

Fernandes already makes a tremendous accomplishment with this new job. She will be the first deaf provost of a hearing university without a big deaf program.

  11. Penny Says:

You could be right that MJ might have signed the paper for political reason. Perhaps MJ had to sign the paper in order to get the position as Director of Deaf Studines? We will never know what the story behind it. My point here is that we need to point directly at MJ not Jane as it does not make sense to me. This is the way how I look at it. (I was thinking of in corporation world that if some workers don’t like my work or don’t think I belong there then they will have to approach to the manager, supervisor but not to me because it would consider as confrontational) I learned that from my own experience.

  12. Dianrez Says:

Plants do better when they are pruned and the cuttings rooted elsewhere to grow just as vigorously in new soil.

JKF will be a great asset to her new employers, and there she will bring a bit of Gallaudet to the new campus, hopefully to interest new people who will come to Gallaudet to seek information about communities of deaf peoples.

At the same time, she will be a trailblazer, opening up new opportunities for future deaf academicians to work in hearing universities. This is a win/win situation that brings reality out of what were only fictional roles played by Marlee Matlin.

Jane, start packing your bags and preparing for your new job! Time’s a-wasting! Kudos!

  13. Penny Says:

Another thing here…How many Deaf men and women have a higher position like Jane? Not many. Zinser was a Provost for awhile before she became Presdient of the University so who knows that Jane will become a President for the University one day. Be careful how we judge others. I am envious of Jane as I wish I could be intelligent like her and have a higher position. Many intelligent Deaf people have entry positions such as teaching ASL classes and unable move up like Jane. It looks like she has many good qualities but of course she is not qualified to work in the Deaf community and that is okay. We can hope to find someone better one day. Davilla is doing great and hope next one will do even better. :-)

  14. White Ghost Says:

    Here it is:

    http://citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200771130045&source=rss

Jane Fernandes said in the article,

“Students were concerned that Fernandes did not fit some of the traditional expectations of the deaf community,” Fernandes said, For example, she did not learn American Sign Language until she was 23.”

That is *NOT* true at all.

She mismanaged the crisis management when there were two murders that occurred.

    White Ghost

  15. Jean Boutcher Says:

    Elizabeth,

Transmets-lui félicitations et bonne chance avec 100 Dom Perignons!

    Jean

  16. Patty Says:

    >>Zinser was a Provost for awhile before she became Presdient of the University so who knows that Jane will become a President for the University one day.<<

Hmm, are you aware that Zisner is hearing with no ASL skills??

Curious…how will JKF communicate in her new position?

  17. Brian Riley Says:

Penny, don’t confuse skill in the English language with intelligence. Those are two different things.

  18. Penny Says:

Brian- I am not confused…she does have intelligence…look at her degrees but you probably meant that she does not have knowledge or understanding of Deaf culture and ASL. However it does not mean that she does not have intelligence. My Professor is a retired Judge… a very intelligent man…but knows nothing about Deafness does not mean he is not intelligence.

  19. Penny Says:

    not intelligent man. I mean…

  20. Diane Says:

True Biz? Jane might take a job at UNC? I hope so –Keep me posted. :-)

I am sure Jane is intelligent but … she is ignorant. It is not because Jane learned sign language when she was 23. Just a plain obnoxious and ignorant person … Period.
    UNC, Please – Take Jane.

MZ, I will be clicking with you if Jane is hired!

  21. Diane Says:

Ooh Jane is is …. gone? Yahoooooo! *click*

  22. Brian Riley Says:

    Penny,

I don’t want to criticize her until the UNC Board confirms her appointment. I hope she gets the job.

We’ll save this line of discussion/debate for another day.

  23. Jean Boutcher Says:

    Hi Penny,

I agree with Brian Riley (vide supra). Some people
excel in writing, but they are not stellar in intellgience. Or the other way around. Some are good in both. It varies from individual to individual.

  24. Penny Says:

Jean- I see what you are saying here. We all know that Jane is an intelligent lady in her own way…we have got to admit that..of course she does not have the intelligence in Deaf Studies, ASL or leadership in the Deaf community. I am sure Brian does not have stellar in intelligence in some areas. Why can’t we all look at good things and wish people the best. We have other important issues to worry about and why should we drill into destroying an individual. Dali Lama said we are all sentient beings and I agree with him. Do you?

  25. Tami Says:

I wonder if UNC needs a scuba diving psychology professor too??? I think I know of a good one.

  26. White Ghost Says:

    More information……

    http://citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200771130142&source=rss

Fernandes stated “Because I grew up as an oral deaf person and I learned ASL later in my life, I didn’t have the right characteristics as a deaf person to be the president the ASL and deaf culture community wanted to have.”

Hello? Jane? You don’t know who you are…..come on, Jane, your’e over 50 years old. That’s over 28 years you have learned ASL. REALLY sad. I learned ASL when I was 15 years old. and I’m now over 45 years old. That’s over 30 years of ASL….

    Don’t be coy with us……

    White Ghost

  27. Ken Rose Says:

Obviously, this is good news for all. Jane Fernandes has obvious qualifications as a college administrator. But at the same time, clearly NOT the person to represent the Deaf Community in such an important position as President of Gallaudet.

This is really the position for which she really BELONGS, as a behind-the-scenes administrator. It’s what she was really made for. Her RESUME as a college administrator? Finely qualified. Her TRACK RECORD as a Leader in the Deaf Community? God AWFUL.

  28. I was at Gallaudet Says:

UNC obviously didn’t do their homework. Jane Fernandes didnt know how to work with faculty and students at Gallaudet. She is not qualified to be provost. She also wasn’t giving MSCHE their reports as required by law. She caused Gallaudet to be put on proboation. Who can also forget the ugly names she called students. She will fail miserably in her new job and I wish UNC luck. We shall see how long before she gets fired. The people who say she is a good provost are flat wrong. Wait until they see how much she hates to socialize with people.

  29. Paotie Says:

    *laughs*

Sure are a lot of conspiracy worshippers on this thread.

And notice the overwhelming number of comments that depict Fernandes as “not Deaf enough.”

But the funniest thing I saw was the comment about colonism.

    Stupid.

If nothing less, this entire thread demonstrates McConnell’s crab theory. And the fact that conspiracy idiots are just that – idiots.
    :o )

    Paotie

  30. Hopeless Says:

    Elizabeth,

Your obsession with Dr. Fernades is troubling. Oh, FYI obsession means — a persistent disturbing preocupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling. You seem to come out of the woodwork whenever JKF’s name is in the news.

I have to believe you and others are a bit jealous of her. Or perhaps that she may be teaching out the rest of the year in the ASL studies department with someone you know. Whatever the case your hateful, angry remarks will only boost her standing.

Dr. Fernandes has more positve achievments than you could ever imagine for yourself. Again, Jealousy?

If you have all the answers for our deaf community then why don’t you apply for the Pres. position at Gallaudet. You could hire Car Schroeder as the Provost and Brian Riley as your P.R. person. I am not kidding. Put Up Or Shut Up!!

You sit behind your blogs and cut people to death with your hateful, angry remarks giving all the reasons why she is such a bad person, and have ZERO to add in a positive way.

And please, don’t patonize us with saying you congratulate her. You and I know you wish she dropped dead so stop the BS.

Elizabeth, living life as an angry, hateful, vengeful person is know way to go. I suggest you travel to the sea and enjoy some serenity. Show some time of utter quietude.

Beside, Dr. Fernandes will finish out the spring teaching at Gallaudet and should be able to do so without all the anger. Or maybe you should pay her off to take another six months paid leave!!!

  31. kevin Says:

Jane had alienated many Deaf people. Will she do the same with the hearing population?

Let’s all wish her well in her new job, ok?

  32. William S. Says:

If you would like for her to move on from Gallaudet, the best thing to do is to offer a hearty congratulations and allow the board of trustees at UNC to appoint her into the position with a minimal amount of controversy. If the board sees more “bashing” on your part, then they may possibly consider withdrawing the offer to Jane.

    Got it?

Let’s move on, and wish her well in her future endeavors. As for Patty’s question on how she can communicate with others at UNC, shame on you. You would think that in this day and age companies and universities are hopefully becoming more accessible for us Deaf people through the use of interpreters and other means. This to me, is hopefully helping us to open doors for other people to work in higher positions in companies that are mostly hearing, regardless what I think of Jane.

    W-

  33. Diane Says:

*wondering* Who is Hopeless? Hope he or she gets a bad karma. MZ is a dedicated leader and advocator for the Deaf Community. I admire her for this. We all have OCD on certain things or issues. :-)

  34. IamMine Says:

    *laughing at hopeless*

That is really funny… MishkaZena jealous? Anyone who knows her personally would disagree with you. Nor is she a hateful or an angry person that you painted her to be.

She’s far from that kind of person. She covered a lot during the Gally protest and if anyone paid close attention, she NEVER even competed with any v/bloggers for information. She is not that kind of person who would be looking for advancement or acknowledgment that would benefit her, but rather for the people. That’s MishkaZena.

She’s a deaf civil rights activist. And she saw a lot of wrongdoings under the IKJ/JKF administration that concerned the rights and safety of the students, especially with the campus deputy.

    Jealous? Oh please!

    Crab theory? Oooooooookkkkkkkkkayy.

As for William’s statement – nah, it would not hurt Jane at all if UNC got a wind of this blog. They are well aware of what happened during the protest and I am sure that they were very impressed with her persistence through the entire process. That is one pretty damn impressive quality, I must say!

If anything, we hope UNC would take Jane much earlier! And no, it’s not because she’s “not deaf enough” that had been wrongfully spanned by the PR of Gallaudet, but because it’s her calling at UNC and not at Gallaudet. The damages have already been done and it’s just not a good idea for her to come back and teach at Gallaudet, but to move on straight to UNC.

Again, congratulations Jane and this time around, I truly believe you will find happiness and joy at UNC as a provost.

  35. Lisa C. Says:

Well….My DEAF friend who was employed with the Washington State University as a janitor got laid off from his job when Elizabeth Zisner was a president. I hope Jane Will NOT have any deaf employee get laid off from their job at the university where she is a new provost. Will she??

  36. Patty Says:

    William S.,

Shame on me? I was honestly curious. Will she use an interpreter or depend on her Oral skills in her new job? Honestly, I wish her nothing but happiness and prosperity in her new job.

    Hopeless,

MZ is a civil rights activist/Deaf advocate, so there is nothing even remotely “jealous” about her. Take the time to read her entire blog…perhaps you’ll realize that your “jealous” comments are really “hopeless”ly preposterous.

  37. RLM Says:

    Hopeless,

Elizabeth is just being positive like urging the University of NC to take Janey. So we could get Janey out of our hair. Janey is much like a bat flying over our heads.

We will see the real color of Janey in years after she run the University of NC and get in the bed with the CI manfacturers.

I have nothing personal against Janey at all, but find her having lack of “people” intelligence. Janey is too “yes” person, who do not stand for the importance of academic freedom and intergity.

I am much pleased to see Janey going somewhere on the yellow brick.

    RLM

  38. captt Says:

To all of you who say Elizabeth is positive, plleeeeaassee. I Haven’t seen a positive statement come out of her blog. I have a lot of “know it all” statements that produce little to no good.

I would like to see people stick up for all deaf people rather than your chosen few. The negativity against CI’s and oral methods is liking tackling your own teamate in the fourth quarter of a tie game.

RLM, Your plagerism of Dr. Fernandes’ name shows your true colors. Nothing personal against her, your kidding right, or should review your statements of the last year as well a Elizabeths.

I am with Hopeless all the way on this one. Elizabeths obsession with Dr. Fernandes is not healthy. Ask any heart doctor!! Oh that’s right you have no heart.

Time will tellwhat will happen at Gallaudet and its students. My thought is there will be more students chosing positive places to get their education rather than Galluadet.

  39. ncresident Says:

We don’t want her here sorry.

  40. IamMine Says:

This is my last comment ’cause I have distracted myself away with v/blogs due to heavy schoolwork.

But I wanted to respond to captt real quick.

Elizabeth has similar background as Jane’s where she learned ASL later in life. She has nothing against methods such as oral, lipreading, CIs, SEE, PSE, and so on.

Just because some people she interacts with who are out-spoken against CIs and some of other methods does not mean they all think the same thing. Elizabeth has friends who are oral, CI users, SEE, PSE, and ASL. She supports their right to speak out and respects their views.

I have CI myself and I am not culturally deaf, but I have respect for everyone, regardless of the background they came from. There are similarities that I share with everyone.

So your argument of Elizabeth being in a “chosen few” is invalid and out the window. :)

  41. Karen Mayes Says:

    Hi,

Elizabeth is well-known for having a balanced view of pros and cons, bad and good, etc., while keeping her viewpoints to herself… it is a challenge which I say that the majority of bloggers and vloggers have difficulty to rise to.

I have no problem with Jane moving on… she will always have some people who thinks worse of her while she will always have other people who think highly of her… just like everyone else. I am aware that the criticism is harder on some people who assume the positions of leadership (look at our former US presidents… Bush, Clinton, etc., did have their own share of harsh criticisms and praises.

There are many “fish” in the wide ocean and we need them whether we like it or not… not “chosen few ;o)

  42. pdurr Says:

    please S T O P

    This “dialogue” saddens me greatly

I honestly am very glad for Dr. Fernandes

I do not and will not ever wish her ill nor her new University

While i do not like the statements and choices the three Ks have made – i wish them no harm

Only wish for us as a Deaf community to know how to keep our eyes on the prize. Objecting to someone’s existence is not humane. Objecting to someone teaching in a dept and field of which they have undermined and may bring additional questions of academic integrity are suitable and part of civil protest

trying to destroy someone or to mock them is not compassionate (this goes for both parties – anti janers and pro janers)

i think alot of this behavior stems from the great hurt that befell us all with the fall-out of the protest – perhaps Dr. Fernandes quotes in the press recently are a result of the scar from the conflict, perhaps some of the postings and vlogs here are a result of the scar from the conflict. it does not matter who started the conflict – it only matters that we r making like “bleeding kansas” here – it must STOP

by having such a degrading dialogue in such a public forum we do DIS-honor to the student protesters

they were the ones sleeping in the cold tents, standing guard at the gates, working and campaigning desparately and PEACEFULLY.

there have been victories which r being tarnished by this “squabble”

i would welcome dialogue with the three Ks – i am anxious to understand their points of view and their suffering

I am also very anxious when i see the great anger within the community directed at these individuals.

i know i have played a part in this by examining and challenging statements and actions by the three ks but again i have never done so with the intention or desire to cause them personal harm but rather for us to examine our collective pain peacefully, to halt the inaccurate statements and harmful actions, and to move forward positively and proactively. i want no part in hate filled messages or actions

let us stop throwing stones at each other

really honestly some of the things that have been written here about Mishka Zena and about Dr. Fernandes and others are just so immoral – so sickening – i do not know how these things could leave our fingers and appear before our eyes and us still click submit for the world to see

have some of us no conscious?

did we forget the human in humane, the civil in civil disobedience

i wish u each and ALL peace

“type carefully – feelings are everywhere”

    pdurr

  43. Diane Says:

    Hopeless -

Without MZ, we wouldn’t be here and discuss this important issue. Glad we can voice our pros and cons in good ways. Myself as a former Deaf Oralist, I am happy to see Jane go. I am not against Jane or anyone here. Jane is just not qualified for her job at Gallaudet even she knows ASL and so on. I am sure Jane is nice but she’s just a plain ignorant woman. Congrats Jane .. I wish her the best. Everyone is unique here and has their opinions. Bravo MZ I love ya! *hand waving*

  44. A Deaf Pundit Says:

Pdurr, you said it better than me. Glad you said that!

  45. Lisa C. Says:

    Hopeless,
    Jealous?? What do you mean?

    Hi Penny,
These diplomas are made of toilet paper.

  46. Hopeless Says:

    Lisa C.

What I mean is JKF has a great career. She has made great accomplishments. She was the one out of thousands who applied for the job at UNC and got it. Nope, no flawed search as you all complained about when she was appointed pres. at Gally. She got the pres job at Gallaudet fair and square and you all complained about everything under the sun including a flawed search.

Dr. Fernandes is an accomplished educator who moves on in a positive disposition.

So yup Jealousy seems to be the word, if not jealousy then maybe its just plain hate and anger.

  47. White Ghost Says:

I just learned someone who posted the comment area in the Citizen-times that Jane Fernandes has a same as personality as Chancellor Ponder’s of UNC-Asheville.

    White Ghost

  48. Mishka Zena Says:

Readers thank you for your support of me. You know me so well :)

I’m angry? jealous? Obsessed? I congratulated Jane and I get bashed for that? I guess you are always looking for opportunities to bash me, no matter what I say about Fernandes. This post is a very positive one, but you apparently don’t like it. *shrug*

By the way, thanks for giving me good laughs. My friends laughed, too, reading your accusations. I guess you don’t know me well at all. Excuse me while I go and celebrate this good news of Fernandes’s new job. I am hopeful she will be happier at her new position. I suggest you celebrate, too.

Have a nice night. Please try to relax. Maybe taking a nice stroll at the Ellipse, enjoying the festive lights may make you feel joyous in spirit :)

  49. Dave Says:

MZ jealous and obsessed?? Not a bit! After all, as her husband I’m in a position to know!

Fernandes was–and remains–a very polarizing figure in the Deaf community, and the wounds have not healed completely, since, for one thing, those responsible for the attacks on student protestors have yet to be held accountable.

In any case, I wish her the best at UNC.

  50. Lisa C. Says:

    Mishka Zena, you rock!

  51. Jean Boutcher Says:

    To Hopeless and Captt:

Elizabeth jealous of Fernandes? Obsessed about her? Completely the opposite. Journalism is her passion. She also does what historians do. Are all journalists and authors of biographies of presidents obsessed and jealous? We are proud of Elizabeth for her outstanding journalism in her blogs. One should be grateful to have a talented journalist like Elizabeth. Back to square one, Elizabeth was kind and gracious to wish Fernandes well even though we witnessed the corruption of the Jordan-and-Fernandes administration.

Please memorise that journalists of prestigous newspapers, historians, and biographers tell nothing but the truth. I think that both of you Hopeless and Captt should post a message of apology to Elizabeth.

  52. W. David Samuelsen Says:

Elizabeth Zinser – Washington State University?

    wrong college.

It was University of Idaho at Moscow, Idaho, across the border from WSU at Pullman, WA.

She eventually ended up at Southern Oregon University and retired from there 2 years ago. Southern Oregon University has deaf students.

Elizabeth earned my respect when she saw the obvious and resigned from the Gally position. Not JKF!

Oh by the way, one of her cronies got terminated from one school last month. Good riddance!

  53. Hopeless Says:

    Elizabeth,

Everyone reading this blog knows that your “congratulations” to Dr. Fernandes is as fake as a three dollar bill. “Kind and gracious”, get me the bucket immediately.

But that’s O.K. If you get your kicks out of attacking someone with the same diability as yourself that’s good. Whatever make you happy.

    To Dave,

Obssessed is the exact word to describe Elizabeth. Look up it’s definitions. It is evident her journalistic expertise and topics are for the most part about bashing Dr. Fernandes. If you don’t see a issue with this, oh well. Good journalists give all sides of a story. I have yet to read anything positive, just controversey come from Elizabeth’s blog. I don’t know what was personally done to her but she should get it addressed. Good luck with the two of you!!!

P.S. Dr. Fernandes did not authorize any alleged attacks on any students.

I think I will take a walk on the pink sanded beaches here and watch them come alive as the sun rises.

  54. A Deaf Pundit Says:

Have fun, Hopeless… Hope you STAY on the beaches.

  55. Karen Mayes Says:

*Chuckling*… some of us are hopeless, harping on the negatives, on the past. We have to remember that history is often more rewritten than not… let past be past, hopefully we all learned something new in our different perspectives (right or wrong) and move on to… greener pastures.

  56. Mishkazena Says:

Hopeless, don’t you know that life is too short to be constantly angry? Regular readers are aware that I am sincere with my congratulations. I’m glad for Fernandes as she has many good traits that may be used in better way in a new university. Davila has made tremendous improvements with Gallaudet, which we are deeply appreciative. We all have moved on.

Again, Readers, thank you so much for your support. See, Hopeless, they know me very well.

I really think it’s time for you to let go and move on, too. Please take a hint from Fernandes. Enjoy the beach! Happy Holidays, Hopeless! :)

  57. Diane Says:

Hopeless — Is your nickname Hopeless and Why? Can you share this with us? Maybe you don’t have a hope for the future of your own but … angry and bitter toward to the others. Let’s hope for this issue to be resolved here. Respect and Listen each others without negative criticisms. I hope you have a great hopefully holidays –

    Hopefully yours, Diane

  58. Hopeless Says:

Um, MZ… apparently you forgot to go through somebody first to determine the worthiness of your topic. Here’s the “guideline”: Is Jane Fernandes that important?

I beg to differ. Have you heard of a book entitled “Why England Slept?” by the future president John F. Kennedy? England was in trouble because they slept. If we slept or failed to examine and re-examine about Fernandes, we would lose Gallaudet students to Fernandes’s UNCA. Why? Because the strategy plan she was planning to implement at Gallaudet is being transferred to UNCA. Oralists, Cuers, and CIers would attend UNCA instead of Gallaudet because they like Fernanades’ plan. That means that Gallaudet would lose 200, 300 students who have graduated from mainstream schools and who do not like using sign language.

Well you certainly selected an apt name for yourself, “Hopeless”!

Elizabeth is a blogger, she isn’t obliged to present all sides of a given story if she doesn’t want to. I find her to be eminently fair-minded, but perhaps I’m biased!

    Enjoy the beach…

What I mean is JKF has a great career. She has made great accomplishments. She was the one out of thousands who applied for the job at UNC and got it. Nope, no flawed search as you all complained about when she was appointed pres. at Gally. She got the pres job at Gallaudet fair and square and you all complained about everything under the sun including a flawed search.

Dr. Fernandes is an accomplished educator who moves on in a positive disposition.

So yup Jealousy seems to be the word, if not jealousy then maybe its just plain hate and anger.”

    My,my, my…you are re-writing history!

    Fact:

JKF did not get the appointment of President of Gallaudet “fair”. Even the BOT members have expressed that in private.

    Fact:

JKF is NOT an accomplished scholar. Read Bob Johnson’s paper to really understand that JKF was never/has been anything remotely near a scholar.

    Fact:

    She was an average administrator.

    Fact:

Her style of management made a lot of people dislike her. Examples are really really numerous. She was not a good person to work for…ask the Clerc Center staff.

There are a lot of other facts that you failed to mentioned, including the fact that she has continued to bad mouth the Gallaudet community.

    Fact:

Her appointment as Provost was made without merits…IKJ by pass the normal process to appoint her as Provost. Also, JKF was granted tenure without “going thru the normal process. She was granted tenured by a BoT WHO WAS BLIND SIDED BY IKJ . Current BoT members have promised that they will never again be easily swayed.

By the way-you sound like a bitter person ..perhaps you are Janet Prey, or Jane Norman?

Please get the facts straight…and move on with life.
