Jenny Botero Who Hurt DBC Child Protester Promoted To White House?!!
Commentary: The Washington Post is reporting that Jenny Botero is being hired by the White House. Jenny Botero is the Marriott general manager who snatched flyers out of the hands of a young deaf girl and her mother, tore the flyers up in front of her and threw them on the ground. The girl was left terrified, with a scratch on her hand. When I asked her the next day, she replied that she was still scared of that woman. Who would do this to such a sweet adorable innocent girl??
This isn’t acceptable. Not only did she hurt a child and interfered with deaf people’s freedom of speech, her crime was also reported to the police!Â
Why would White House want an executive housekeeper with an anger issue? I bet they didn’t know of this unpleasant incident. Do you think White House should be notified of this tidbit?  After all, we don’t want to see Jenny screaming at a foreign diplomat who doesn’t speak English, do we?

Jenny Botero — a.k.a. the “queen of clean”– is leaving Marriott International to become executive housekeeper at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. White House officials were hush-hush, but we uncovered a few details about Botero, who was personally recommended for the job by Bill Marriott.
Botero, 50, started as a bellhop in 1979, rose up the ranks to head cleaning operations for the company’s 400,000 rooms and 20,000 housekeepers, and helped upgrade the chain to 300-thread-count sheets and an extra pillow on each bed. Now she’s bringing her squeegee and housekeeping tips to the presidential mansion:

After witnessing the immaturity, poor decisions, and violence Ms Botero displayed towards Deaf protestors during the AGBell Conference in Virginia end of July, its amazing that the Bush White House would even consider her! Maybe that reveals they have the same mentality as Botero!”)

Poetic justice…head housekeeper of 20,000 hotel maids becomes head housekeeper of an outgoing president’s cleanup detail.
Just imagine her going over the president’s bathroom with white gloves and chewing out housekeepers with longer service than she has had in the White House. Either way, she won’t last. She’s already demonstrated her incompetence and has risen thanks to the Peter Principle.
Seriously, we have bigger battles to fight than take down this ignorant woman with a short-lived job. Barb should settle the injury and interference with free expression rights in court for her family…the rest of us all need to save our collective voice for the larger issue itself: Deaf rights to ASL.

I’ve already wrote to the reporter of DC Examiner and filed an opinion to White House, along with the copy of the blog where Barb described the attack. She needs to learn the consequences of her inappropriate behavior. It’s the principle as people shouldn’t treat deaf people this way. It will only take a min or two to make an objection and I am hopeful others will do the same thing
We still can work on more important agendas which require more time.

Thanks, MZ, for the Wiki link. I checked it and found to my embarrassment that the Peter Principle was written 39 years ago…I had referred to an ancient idea! Now it is more likely called the “Dilbert Principle” after the cartoon Dilbert and its stupid people in the workplace.
A variation: we can now have the “Jenny Principle” to show how ignorant hearing people rise to positions that lets them stomp on a Deaf child.

I was dumbfounded when I learned about this on Barb Digi’s vlog!
I left my comments on her website.
I am going to write to the White House via snail mail. FYI – Jean Boutcher, it’s 41 cents not 39 cents. Smile.
The best way we can get the White House staff and the president’s attention are our snail letters. It’s more like a valid or black/white documents.
Phone conversations or e-mails are not really beneficial. I may be wrong. Feel free to correct me!

Barb, Interesting about Jenny Botero issues were not approirated of grabbed your daughter, I am feeling touchy which it is not really comfortable to deal with your daughter’s hand or some kind of scratch is not accpetable.
I am speaking about Lincoln Bedroom is haunting for many years since her husband, Abraham Lincoln. Many of you did not know much about Mary Lincoln was mentally illness and was looking for her son, Tad who died when he had high fever and died. After Tad’s death. My second daughter, Tara and I watched about historical of Abraham Lincoln. it was very interested!
One day of Washington State, Govern Gary Locke was first of Chinese family were there and stayed the room of Lincoln after lecture by President Clinton. I learn that I read newspaper from Seattle Time or Seattle PI. Not sure the exactly I remember that years he was first governer in USA. Occur that time. Gary was invited and stayed in that room for one night. Gary and his wife were scared to death after notice Mary Lincoln’s ghost were looking for Tad. Gary and his wife were freaked out of the Lincoln. It was very scared to death. No wonder, No one use that room for many many years after Tad’s death was true. because of ghost of Mary Todd Lincoln. That’s interesting!!
But, Let find out if Jenny Botero probably will end up of fear by Mary’s ghost never solved. Let her face became “White Ghost” face? Who know?

After viewing Barb’s and Brinna’s v log..
I am somewhat disappointed in Barb’s “excuse” (how she does not want to spread herself too thin and it’s on the back burner) in not pursuing in the case of Brinna s incident with Jenny. It made me wonder.. perhaps the whole thing was made a mountian out of a molehill. Maybe it is because there was not really a case? I thought she already made a police report?
I am scratching my head here and questioning the liability of this specific incident.
The white House have many foriegn interpreters on staff. Plus they will hire people who are fluent in speaking English. For some reasons, I get the impression that some of you think the housekeepers are like the ones in hotels and etc?
If they look into the police record, she would not be even considered for the job. It makes me wonder what really happened to the police reports of the incident.
I just hope Brinna is not a parrot for Barb. She is a beautiful girl and I am sure what she expeirenced was horrible but .. I suppose it was not horrible enough for Barb to fight this thing out and make a good case out of it.

Barb has integrity and will not exaggerate, nor will she use her daughter as a pawn. I know them both and I spoke with Brianna the next afternoon. She told me what happened and how she felt. Believe me, despite her age, that child definitely has a mind of her own
There were other witnesses.
The police told her she has a case for a civil right lawsuit. I was there also when the police conferred with her and the hotel security. I was taken aback by the hostility of the hotel security… These participants were very peaceful and the atmosphere relaxed .. the hostility perceived with the hotel management was unwarranted. It was revealed that AGB was discussing this with the hotel security and apparently they gave the employees that we were going to be violent. But it was a very peaceful social awareness event, marred by Jenny Botero’s outrageous acts.
Filing a lawsuit is extremely time-consuming and very hard on the plaintiffs. Just because the person hasn’t filed for one doesn’t mean the case is weak. If the case is weak, the police wouldn’t have told her she has a case for a lawsuit.
I am perfectly aware of the role of the executive director of housekeeping. I still stand that she isn’t fit to deal with people, considering her anger issue and the fact that she had a complaint lodged against her at a local police station.
Why did White House hire her despite of this incident? Considering the people who are currently working there.. need I say anything more?

You may or may not know, domestic workers at the White House are not changed when every new president comes in. There are hundreds of workers in the White House that have been there for 20 or something more years. They run the White House not the President or First Lady. Though they do work with the First Lady on menus, cleaning, and decorating but they have the “power” It s a whole different ball game than having different cabinets, president advisers, national security and etc.
Jenny will be there for many and many years to come unless Barb and Brinna can convince the society this woman has no business being in the White House. This is remain to be seen.
Remember, DBC did not have ASL interpreters with them to provide communication access. Overall, I say the DBC was poorly organized as we know communication with hearing people is a barrier period and misunderstanding happens when two languages clashes.
I saw the videos and I saw lack of respect on the DBC part, no intepreters, and how some act so innocent and say “see what AGB did” when DBC just provoked.
I am a pro bilingual activist and all for ASL for both hearing and Deaf babies.
Barb put her daughter at risk period. I am Deaf and my daughter is Deaf. Knowing how clueless people who do not know ASL can create chaos, I would never put my daughter in that position knowing people are upset already. Barb knew Jenny was upset yet she had her daughter nearby her. tsk tsk… The society may favor in Jenny and frown on Barb as she taped Jenny s reaction to the other demonstrators and yet let Brinna be in the area.
I know she is trying to encourage Brinna to be an activist but there are certain boundaries when it comes to our Deaf children, I felt Brinna was exploited by both Barb and Jenny.
Thank you for letting me share my views. Perhaps, in the next DBC, we need to think about our Deaf children and know where the red flags are and protect them from this going through incident again.

For someone who doesn’t know Barb, you are awfully rough on her. I’ve watched the videotapes from the first day and everything went peacefully until Jenny attacked Rachelle. Barb and Brianna were already away from the hotel, on public sidewalk. Barb never saw the attack from Botero as Boreto took advantage of their deafness to sneak up on them from behind. What I’m seeing here is the ‘blame the victim’ mentality and I don’t appreciate it. Where is the accountability for Botero’s unlawful actions?
For your information, I know all the participants personally. I also was there the next day. None of them were violent nor were they provocative. In fact, they were very pleasant, smiling as they passed flyers to people. Botero’s conduct was totally uncalled for.
Society may favor Jenny? Please do tell me what pipe are you smoking? Believe me, nobody will approve a so-called professional hearing employee attacking a deaf child and her deaf mother from back. Oh, this will earn a verdict in favor of Barb, no question about it. Even the police told Ms Botero she was in the wrong and told Barb to think about filing a civil right lawsuit. The police also ordered the hotel security and employees that they are not to harass Deaf participants outside of the hotel as they are within their rights to exercise speech and peaceful assembly.
Oh, by the way, Barb is perfectly capable of communicating with hearing people. So is John and several other people, including me. Please do not assume all of ASL users lack oracy. In fact, some of the strongest supporters for ASL have strong oral backgrounds as they are products of AGB system

For the record, the DBC already had an ASL interpreter for two days straight. I find it interesting that you are pointing fingers at DBC being responsible for this to happen. Why can’t you for once look at the hearing people like Jenny who didn’t make any effort to communicate properly to Deaf people? She could have asked DBC’s interpreter to sign it out for her for heaven’s sake. Instead she pointed fingers and gestured in a way that is intimating to others.
Just do me a favor for you naysayers, get your facts straight before you leak!

I wondered what happened with Jenny Botero. Such as if she was fired or asked to leave the White House? I truly hope so! I did my part by sending them the typed letter. I have not received any response from them.

No idea as I’ve not followed up on this, but I wouldn’t be surprised if White House keeps her. Keep in mind that there are quite few people at White House with serious anger issues. She probably will fit well with them. Unless her supervisees have enough of her angry outbursts and read the riot act.

Josh, whether she had intended harm or not, she did harm a child and traumatized her. Her angry outbursts were totally out of proportion to the situation. It’s really too bad that she didn’t take the time to compose herself and talk to the Deaf people verbally. She left a bad impression on us, especially after we watched her conduct on the videotapes.
To add to the insult, she had never apologized to the mother nor that poor innocent child for her abysmal behavior.
