Verdict Guilty, Wright in Tears
Guilty of first-degree murder.
Guilty of felony murder.
Guilty of kidnapping.
Daphne cracks the gum she’s chewing but shows not other emotion, but wiping her eyes.  http://blogs.argusleadermedia.com/voices/
Commentary: I am not surprised Wright is guilty. I haven’t met anyone who believes she is innocent. Will she get the death penalty or not? Nobody knows yet, but seeing that she is guilty of kidnapping and premediated murder, I won’t be surprised if she gets the death sentence.Â
Do you think it is a fair trial? Would death penalty sentence be appropriate for her?

12:41 Update: According to Chuck, seven mins later there were few smiles and tears in the courtroom while some of the jurors have to compose themselves emotionally first before returning to the courtroom. Thi is a difficult moment for the jurors, dealing with the gravity of their decision, knowing they will hear the prosecutor’s argument for death sentence. MZ

Daphne in court

Daphne Wright enters the courtroom and wipes her eyes. She looks somber.
Penalty phase
By Chuck Baldwin | Posted at 12:07 pm CDT
If speculation is correct, and Daphne has been convicted of first-degree murder, then we go into a penalty phase … there will be testimony about why she should receive the death penalty, or why she shouldn’t. And the jury will retire a second time to consider that.
People are allowed into the courtroom in groups by Deputy Donnette Kelly. More wait outside.
Daphne’s mother and stepfather are here. So are the VanderGiesen’s and friends of Darlene’s.
We still haven’t been told when court will go into session and the verdict will bed announced.
8 hours
By Chuck Baldwin | Posted at 12:01 pm CDT
It took the jury about 8 hours to reach a decision.
The original guess was 5-6 hours, and then we started second-guessing ourselves.
This means the jury bought one argument or the other whole cloth – no middle ground.
Daphne either is acquitted or she was found guilty of first-degree murder. http://blogs.argusleadermedia.com/voices/

Wright Trial: Jury To Deliver Verdict
The jury has decided on a verdict in the Daphne Wright murder trial. Jurors deliberated for more than seven hours before coming up with a verdict. We’re awaiting the announcement in the courtroom.
Daphne Wright is charged with kidnapping and murder for the February 2006 slaying of Darlene VanderGiesen. If she’s convicted of either of those counts, jurors will be asked to sentence her to lethal injection.
The jury may also convict her of lesser homicide counts if they don’t think it was premeditated murder. http://www.keloland.com/New

Wright deserves the needle. We need to send a strong message of the dangers of deaf lesbian love triangles like the one that turned my ex-wife into a monster.
April 12th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
The jury took their time and decided that Daffy is guilty was the right thing to do.
I hope that she will not be executed but to be locked up in Mental Institute for the Criminals for life without parole so that she can be studied by deaf psycharists and psychologists to help other very angry and jealous deaf people. Also some deaf women would be saved from either death and abuse. I know few deaf men who abused their wives long time ago in a town that most women lost their teeth and some hair on their heads. The abused women shelters never existed at that time. I am so glad that many more shelters are being built all over protecting children, women and animals. I am still so surprised at the Americans for being so slow about that. Well, I found out that most wealthy women dedicated shelters after their deaths.

Richard, perhap it was you who turned audistic monster so your ex-wife left you.
April 12th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Audistic monster? LOL!
April 12th, 2007 at 2:24 pm
Im not surprised, there was lot of overwhelming evidence against her, especially her note and the plastic bag.
Her defense team was not very strong, i wonder if it was because Daphne didnt have much to say to them after the prosecution team gave their presentation so the defense team didnt have much to work with.
I dont know if it was fair trial for Daphne or not but the evidence was there already. Daphne may be placed in protective custody unit if she is to serve life sentence and she will interact with other inmates but if shes going on the death row, shes going to be very isolated and stay in her cell for 23 hrs and only get out for one hr to shower or exercise. Itll be interesting to see what they hand her. I wonder if Daphne had long rap sheet so they wanted death penalty for her and if she had previous clean record, would she have been handed different sentence. Me wonder. Does anyone know?

Daphne Wright was your ex-wife?
April 12th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Richard,
Not all lesbians are monster. What you said is homophobic. Not appreciated here. There are loving lesbians. Remember there are straight women who are monsters so it has nothing to do with sexual orientation. I appreciate if you take it back.
Thanks for understanding.

#5: I don’t know whether Daphne has a “rap sheet” but if she had, it would not have been presented to the jury in this trial. It might be presented at the penalty phase (which I believe takes a different jury, but I’m not sure of how they’re doing this) to argue for or against a particular sentencing.

If I can tke my ex-wife from that cabal, then I’ll be delighted to take my comment back.

Richard Roehm is an idiot throughly, claiming to be an advocate when all he does is mouth off hatred, claiming he does no wrong. lately, latest topic is his horrible ex wife. I believe he is the one who see nothing but evil in all people. What a dork!
Not a secret, numerous bloggers have to remove Richard’s post. So stupid. Yeah, on the level of IMUS.
April 12th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Such a gory murder.
I certainly hope justice was properly served to the right person.
April 12th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
Richard, there are many straight people who murder each other when they are in love triangles. Look at one woman who put her two little boys in the car, got out and pushed them in the lake, thus killing them simply because her boyfriend did not want children and she was unhappy with her husband. There are many countless stories about straight people murdering each other, much more than gays and lesbians, believe me!
April 12th, 2007 at 4:03 pm
I wouldn’t be surpriesd if there will be appeals later for Daphne wright on the basic of “fair trial” issues. I wouldn’t be surprised…..
April 12th, 2007 at 4:04 pm
I think daphne is going to get life. The chain saw was suspected to use to dismember Darlene’s body, therefore the chain saw is the key to evidence but they couldn’t find the chain saw. If they find the chain saw, they would find fingerprints on it. No chain saw, any idea who used the chain saw to dismember Darlene’s body?

If people wants to remove my posts that’s fine by me. It shows how childish they can get to play with other’s rights to free expression.
I’ve given awards to a lot of gays and lesbians in my area for their good deeds to the deaf communities and our agency spends like $3,000 a year on gay /lesbian related activities.
Dont come to me as homophobic.
Wright deserves the big high and we’ll pray she gets it soon.
April 12th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Glad Daphne is guilty — she is not safe to herself and anyone. My gut feeling is that she will face a life sentence without parole. I don’t consider her monster or socipath. She is a extremely angry and jealous woman who didn’t think clearly and went toooo far. I think it has to do with her family’s upbringing – Rejection and Abandoned are the big issue for her. I want Daphne to feel the pain because Darlene’s family and friends are in pain going through in the court and they are grieving too. Darlene will be always remembered .. even I don’t know her. My heart goes out to her families and friends. I feel for them.
April 12th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
I believe Wright is guilty so I’m not suprised at the verdict. However there are two issues at hand, will this set a court precedent in providing services for deaf in court room? If so, it’s not good. secondly, I’m against the death penalty. He who is without sin shall throw the first stone!
However, knowing the demographics of that area, I wouldn’t be suprised if they imposed death penalty. Perhaps it will never happen as it automatically triggers an appeal to higher courts.
April 12th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Oops … my heart goes out to THEIR families and friends. I am sure Daphne’s parents feel terrible. They don’t know whether they are good or bad parents to their children. Both kids are now in jail. ( I hope they seek help for this).

Diane:
I agree… I don’t know what the family of Wright has but what I heard from many sources: They has “darkness” in their family.
Darlene was innocent and did not deserve this.
Speaking of death penalty: I don’t know what to support because I have heard too many religious opinions on these – It’s big debate. So It’s on God’s hands..
Guilty Verdict will not bring Darlene back but allow her rest in peace. Daphne got what she got what she deserved.
April 16th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
does anyone know Daphne or her history or her family? I read the post of a sibling also in jail
