Reprisal Lifted For Commerson

Ryan Commerson announced that he was informed yesterday that he got his job back.

It is currently unknown if others who have lost their jobs have them already reinstated. Also unclear are those who were fired from their internships as the semester is already over.  Whether the back pay for the lost time will be included remains to be seen.

It is still an encouraging sign.

    That’s good to know!! :)

That has to be a huge relief for RC – but I hope his fellow protesters get the same treatment, for leading a peaceful and civil protest.

I’m talking about the majority – not the minority (from what I’ve read) who may need to be investigated (though I do not agree with the ‘automatic’ reprisals without fair process).

    Keep us updated! :)

This is indeed good news! But we still need the committee of Ombudsman. Hopefully as soon as in January 2007.

Oh, by the way, what about the other protesters, including Tara Holcomb, LaToya Plummer, and Chris Corrigan? Their leadership was equally admirable.

Ryan Commerson has not arrested during the Black Friday. Correct me if I am wrong…….

Definitely yes for having the Ombudsman committee to handle and determine the student reprisals!

That’s what I wrote yesterday on “Save Gallaudet University” vlog comment for having an independent commission to investigate the Gally protest, etc.

Our blog postings in criticism of proposed student reprisals on the way seems making the real difference.

We also have to remmy other student and alumni protestors, too along with faculty members. Same thing with volunteers and finanical donors!

I think the Ombudsman’s office needs to be created ASAP. This gives the students, staff, and faculty the right to challenge decisions they may think its unfair. This concept creates a balance and fairness which the accrediation agency is looking for. When the system is in place Gallaudet would be a great place to study, work and teach.

Thanks, Elizabeth… keep fighting for more amnesty for other people. Don’t stop. The bots want you to keep quiet and have their ways again. You are the reason the BOTS can’t hide their agendas. Pam Holmes was telling people that they will be punished lightly. She and other bots don’t know what are they doing. You know more than them. They need to read your blogs before they make the decision. I still dont trust them until everyone is freed from reprisals. What about the officers? Should they be punished for hurting the non violent protesters?

I sure hope that the others will get their reprisals erased, but I have no idea so far. They all must have these premature harsh reprisals done away with and let a middle person see if there can be a fair compromise. An Ombudsman would be an excellent person to do that, so hopefully Davila will create a position.

Thanks, Albert. I don’t think BoT are reading the blogs. Had they done that, they would have known the reprisals a long time ago.

    - ON THIS DAY -

On Dec. 24, 1992, President Bush pardoned former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger and five others in the Iran-Contra scandal.

The BoT and the Jordan Administration ought to do the same to all protesters.

In response to Elizabeth’s response to Albert’s note,
a BoT member Tom Humphries made a statement in October that he has indeed read all blogs and forums.

  9. Mishka Zena Says:

Jean, great to hear that. However, if he did, why didn’t he do something about the reprisals earlier? How strange…

Hopefully others do read the blogs.

  10. Jean Boutcher Says:

    Hi Elizabeth,

    Addendum:

Instead of the 15-minute fame, Tom Humphries has become the most-talked-about BoT member after he made a statement: “Stalemate” as well as “…students are tired….” to the then BoT Chair Baldwin. Maybe his statement appears somewhere on the Internet. I would have to google in different search engines. Should I locate it, I will forward it to you.

  11. Mishka Zena Says:

Jean, that’s true. I remember how other people commented how Tom monopolized the conversation during that forum instead of letting Baldwin speak as the BoT Chairperson. If you do find the statements, please do forward to me as I have limited access to Internet for a while. Thanks
