Gallaudet Still Misleads Media
What this Gallaudet University official didn’t tell the media was that the reprisals had already occurred. Thirteen staff members and students were fired from their jobs and internships. Countless students were automatically put on unpaid leave from their campus jobs. These reprisals are extremely harsh. Without benefit of trial. On other words, they were judged guilty without a trial. What happened to “Innocent until proved guilty”?
Now that the BoT had given official permission for reprisals to go ahead, these students will be penalized even further with more reprisals.
How fair is it that they are being punished way out of proportion to their offenses?
Keep in mind that they fought a flawed presidential candidate search and poor administrative skills of Fernandes. They fought for Gallaudet because they love Gallaudet. They saved Gallaudet.Â
Why are they being punished so severely  instead of being hailed as heroes? elizabeth

Gallaudet Protesters Could Be Punished
Freeze On Discipline Lifted
WASHINGTON — A Gallaudet University official said the school’s administration will proceed with disciplinary actions against student protesters.
Gallaudet is the nation’s top school for the deaf. Demonstrations this fall at times shut down the university. The protesters were unhappy with the incoming president and succeeded in forcing the board to revoke her appointment.
School spokeswoman Mercy Coogan said the board of trustees has decided to let the administration move ahead with actions against the protesters as it normally would deal with infractions
In November, the trustees put a freeze on disciplinary action while they gathered more information. The decision announced Friday lifts that freeze. Students and faculty members protested for weeks over the appointment of former provost Jane Fernandes to the president’s post, saying she lacked the necessary leadership skills. The board revoked her contract in October.

Elizabeth, do you mean the firings occured during the freeze period ordered by the BOT? How come there is no hard facts about the firings at Gallaudet lately? Too risk for the Buff and Blue staff to publish this report, huh? They should be exposed to the mainstream media somehow.

what s wrong with BOT? No healing process. Ben and others know better than that. I am so disappointed them. I know Ben confronted and begged Jordan not to arrest the students. Jordan was so furious with Ben. He faced to Ben… telling him if he (jordan) was stupid? His behavior was threatened. Come one!!! BOT.. show your hearts.. and we start the healing process…. so far, we have not started any.

Well, if they were sending out reports that Fernandes was going to BE president of Gallaudet in spite of last springs protest like thee report that they sent to Hearing Loss magazine (Sept/Oct issue) and blocking news reports of what was actually going on on the campus and telling reporters from the national news media only their side of the whole Unity For Gallaudet story,..what made you think that they would play fair with you?
The “Bots” history has shown that it does not play fair,..doesn’t it?

The firings happened before the freeze and were permitted to continue during the freeze.
I don’t know why B n B didn’t print the names. You’ll have to ask them that.
Albert, there is no healing if the reprisals are unduly severe. These types of reprisals aren’t due to ‘justice’ but more like vengence.
Stanelle, yes, it appears that BoT continue not to be fair. They definitely don’t hold themselves accountable for the poor decisions they’ve committed, leading the stakeholders to form a protest. Talk about double standards.
