Simply, that was made the day after Dr Fernandes was forced to resign. Reprisals hadn’t been done yet. People believed because of what Hlibok relayed that the reprisals would be minor. Later the reprisals turned out to be much severe, fired jobs, laid off from internships, on unpaid leave from jobs, etc. Excessive sanctions totally out of proportion to the offenses.

Anon, actually it is very important because incorrect information was permitted to be released. Why? That is a very important question because the Gallaudet Community was sorely misled into thinking the reprisals would be appropriate to the misdemeanors. People need to be accountable if they produce untruthful statements. If you don’t believe in accountablity, that is your problem because the protesters deserve a explanation why they were deceived. Was that a tactic from the beginning?

 By the way, from what I’ve heard and seen, this had been a peaceful and civil protest.

I can understand where you are coming from with being puzzled why we should thank BoT after what they have sickingly damaged the community in many ways. I am certainly sharing the pain with you, however, I feel that no matter what they have done to us in the first place we still need to at least thank them FOR finally coming to their sense, you know? Everyone makes a mistake and everyone deserves to be thanked when having moved up a level with their own life lessons regardless how big the step they take every time they grow.
