Marshall: Message to the Gallaudet Community
Good morning folks,
Let us be thankful for this warm beautiful December day, with nary a
cloud in the blue sky.
I want to share with each and every one of you the pressing need to
close ranks and line up in support of the Interim President—Dr.
Davila. As I shared with the Board on Saturday morning, when they
asked me what I thought were the best credentials for the interim
position, I stated that all three candidates bring totally different
packages of strengths and interests to this position, and that it was
the Board’s task to find the degree of best fit.
I fully support their choice and am asking all of you to do likewise.Â
Gallaudet is in a Code Red Alert at this moment of its history.
Additionally, I am convinced that Dr. Davila will pull together a
cohesive, effective, and highly functioning management team.
The entire interview process was pre-eminently fair, and the actual
Board interview was engaging, pleasant, and authentic. And so with all
that said, I leave with the attached message for this upcoming season of
peace.
With blessings on all of your families, I wish you safe travels during
this holiday season.
Sincerely,
William Marshall

Bill,
This is an exemplary of collectivism and unity with altruism. I am also greatly pleased to see Davila welcoming you and Steve to work with him.
We are with you all the way and we look forward to see everyone pitching in support to get the university back on its feet.

Dr. Marshall:
I was not surprised by the tone of your letter because you always move, speak, and sign with grace. I must once again say that I am deeply touched by the dignity, style, and graciousness. I see the same attributes in
the newly-selected Interim President Dr. Davila as well as in Dr. Weiner. I am very confident that the trio of you will work as a team to restore to Gallaudet dignity and hope that were taken away in May 2006. We are looking forward to seeing the unity amongst the faculty, students, staff, and alumni.
Happy holidays,
Jean Boutcher

Dr Marshall was very gracious and showed excellent sportmanship in his letter. I am impressed with his approach.

I don’t think it was fair to criticize Dr. Marshall’s commencement speech. He definitely has a style with a funny edge that should be appreciated.
I also have to mention that I was very much surprised when Dr. Marshall wrote the Board at the end of October that Jane Fernandes should be allowed to take over the presidency immediately. As far as we know, the Board already brewed then a different kind of coffee, and saw the best interest of the university in another direction.
It is great to learn that Dr. Marshall joined and supports the Unity. It sets the example.

Yes, he did, Testing. Others should follow his example.
