Bahl On TV News
Video Library:  http://wcco.com/video/?cid=96.  Page 2 click  on the picture of Doug Bahl at right. Unfortunately it’s not captioned. Aaarrrrggghhh! But it’s worth watching as you can catch Bahl making a few comments.
UPDATE: http://wcco.com/topstories/local_story_342122906.htmlÂ
On the WCCO website posted below, there are links to the complaint, the Minnesota Statute regulating procedures for handling  inmates with communication disabilities, and four blogs.
I checked the complaint form and found it extremely interesting that Bahl’s deafness was NOT mentioned at all. Only the application of pepper spray was cited, but no mention of physical force. That immediately makes the whole report suspect. How did Bahl end up with black eyes and lacerations on his head? The cop reported Bahl shaking his head negatively. Many times deaf people will point a finger at their ear and shake their heads so as to clue in to another person one’s deafness. That cop very likely misinterpreted it as a sign of uncooperation and things then took a turn for the worse.
If the cop alleged that he was on his way back to his cruiser for a pad of paper, then wouldn’t deafness be put on the complaint form, too? This confirms my gut feeling it was a negative reaction to Bahl due to the unfamiliarity of the cop in dealing with a Deaf motorist and that he had no clue Bahl was deaf until much later. I am glad that the media is finally recognizing this instance of  police brutality and that Bahl, with the help of his lawyers, will eventually get justice.. Elizabeth

It will be interesting if the cop car has a video of the incident at the traffic stop.
Thanks for the links to the video and the complaint report.
Doug does not have an ounce of the violence in his body. Oh man.

ahh, right! I think a big city like St. Paul would outfit all police vehicle with cameras.

I have e-mailed WCCO news of St. Paul to please either caption the web video of Doug Bahl or provide a transcript. I hope they’ll reply or call me.

I am a hearie who has informally transcribed this news story for a friend. I noticed the post earlier about contacting WCCO for one, and thought you might like a copy of what I did while you are waiting. If interested, email me and I’ll send it to you.
